Political Threads - An Idea
The board is littered with political threads, so I propose we create two sticky threads where people can discuss politics until their hearts content.

Forum 1 - Lefty WHO. A place where all left-wingers can raise issues. Rights are banned, so there's a cross-fertilisation of ideas.

Forum 2 - Righty WHO. See above, but for right-wing points of view.

If you post threads outside of the left/right thread, you're banned for a week.

I like a political post as much as the next person, but leave some space for West Ham, Favourite Crisps, etc.

Good plan.

Also mirrors the idea of the 'echo bubble' so people can stick to reading what they already agree with.

Would save all that pointless arguing that NEVER results in anyone altering their position one iota.

I am IN.

What about Centre?

What about centrists or Greens?

Re: Political Threads - An Idea
This is the germ of a good idea.

However, both 'sides' will pile onto each other's thread to argue. Therefore I propose just ONE thread for politics/current affairs. Rebels' threads deleted and a message directing them towards the official politics thread - FECK IT, ROOT OUT - but no bans, even temporary.

As a rule of thumb, mockery is more powerful than censorship and bans.

I'll be picketing outside Forum 2 if this goes ahead.

Those of us who are sick of the twitter style political whingeing could deploy a tactic from the avian world: 'mobbing'. If a poster starts a political thread (thus ignoring the official dedicated windbag thread) other posters could 'mob' it by spamming it with unrelated comments, YouTube cat videos, whatever. I've done this before and other posters joined in and in most cases it actually works. The tedious thread dies, leaving the narc who posted it ungratified.

PB, there's a menu on the left hand side of the page, 'Football Forum' or 'Off-Topic Forum', you're one click away from WHO heaven.

Strangely, many of those folk don't feel the same need to wade into the middle of whatever pointless verbal scrap is going on.

Either that or this may not be the forum for those with moderate views.

Nice idea, but apparently the bloke with the 'keys' to the site has hopped the wag.

So what thread would there be for an ex Labour (or Conservative) centrist

Pub Bigot 3:58 Wed Aug 17
Re: Political Threads - An Idea
If you're a centrist, you have a foot in both camps, as you're fence-sitting indecisive time wasters.

A centre rightist.

Re: Political Threads - An Idea
I know it sounds a crazy idea, but you could ban political threads completely like most other forum sites do?

GreenStreetPlayer 4:02 Wed Aug 17
Re: Political Threads - An Idea
Well there’s going to be a lot of banned people as the left just can’t help arguing with anyone who is not them.

It should be if anything the left on one thread, the centre right on the other.
And if you contribute to the centre right thread you’ll be labelled a racist.

Re: Political Threads - An Idea
...and on which thread would somebody who is "running away" from the UK in order to live out their retirement in peace - or at least simply live out their retirement?

And where should all those who stayed in the UK, but let it get into such a fucked-up state while their fellow citizens were working abroad bringing wealth into the UK, post?
